A guide to getting effective help for adolescents with serious mood disorders; has sections on psychiatric medications and current treatments.

Solve your Child’s Sleep Problems. Ferber, Richard. (Simon & Schuster, 2006). Gives hands-on advice on how to help your child deal with sleep disruption, sleep schedule abnormalities.

Fed Up! Winning the War against Childhood Obesity. Okie, Susan. (Joseph Henry Press, 2005). Written by a family physician, this book offers tips on healthy eating and lifestyle; practical suggestions on teaching children how to eat for life; and how to find help for your overweight child.

Everything You Never Wanted Your Kids to Know about Sex (But Were Afraid They’d Ask).Richardson, J. and Schuster, M. (Crown Publishers, 2003). Good resource on parenting techniques and childhood sexuality. Includes a section on parenting your sexually active child.

If Your Child Has an Eating Disorder: An Essential Resource for Parents. Walsh, T.W. and Cameron, V.L. (Oxford University Press, 2005). Provides tips on understanding eatings disorders, navigating the health care system, and looking at current treatment issues, along with practical advice on handling day-to-day life after diagnosis is made. Has a fabulous resource section as well.

What in the World are your Kids Doing Online: Helping your children Understand the Electronic World we live in. Melton, Barbara and Shankle, Sue (Broadway Books, a division of Random House/Doubleday, 2007). Great section that outlines step-by-step how to talk to your kids about difficult subjects; parenting tips on limiting internet use; specific section on recommendations about internet use for kids with specific disorders, including autism spectrum, ADHD, etc.
